THE RUINS OF BEVERAST - UNLOCK THE SHRINE - BATTLE KOMMAND
The rawness of Darkthrone + the offbeat eccentricity of Pan-Thy-Monium= The Ruins Of Beverast.
This German hyper-underground band takes the raw plodding funeral dirge of the most obscure metal and adds just enough weird syncopated noise, new age samples and general loops to make Unlock The Shrine a hell of a release that is only suited for a handful of demented beings. The raw sound, the untight drumming and buzzing guitars are cut off in the disc’s second part, which is made up of instrumental cacophony. The band’s music, if one can call it that, stays away from commercialism of the synthesized kind, although the aforementioned instrumentals are certainly not metal of any kind. It is also unlikely that the band bears any resemblance to what Germany’s Nagelfar composed despite presence of former members of that band here. One supposes that the beast way to describe these guys is as the sounds of the funeral rituals of an alien species. Add to that illegible CD jacket text and this gets fifty marks out of a hundred. - Anna Tergel
