Reviews THORNS OF GRIEF - ANTHEMS TO MY REMAINS – SATANATH
Imagine standing on the northern shores of Pomorskie in Poland observing and withstanding the raging waves of the Baltic Sea in the dead of winter. Such would be the soundtrack to the ambience.
Part funeral doom, part grind, part atmospheric and yet another part psychedelic metal and New Age, Anthems To My Remains is sometimes fast, sometimes slow and always adorned with sub-sonic ferocious growling as wave after huge wave crashes into the rocky shores. It is a horrific, brutal and dismal sound whose atmosphere comes from that mix of distorted drowned out chords and a crushing death that is best exemplified on the grinding whirlwind start of Til Our Rebirth. Think Ad Cinerem meets Dusk meets Sun O))). There is a lot to admire regarding this subterranean entity, but alas the inconsistency gets to you and the prolonged ambient passages and synthesizers can weigh upon a metal fan’s verdict. – Ali “The Metallian”
