Reviews THUNDERSTORM - FAITHLESS SOUL - DRAGONHEART
In recent years the tide of doom metal bands has tilted away from the epic side of the sub-genre and more towards the purely Black Sabbath rehash that is widely regarded as the founding sounds of the style. Bands like Candlemass, Solitude Aeternus and Solstice were becoming fading images in the rear view mirror. As such the time was ripe for a new act to satisfy the fans' craving. Enter Italy's Thunderstorm. There is quite a bit of early Sabbath-ism here of course, but Thunderstorm's mixture of melody and epic atmosphere lists Candlemass as an even bigger influence which suits the knights at Metallian Towers just fine. Songs like Forbidden Gates, Black Light and Hidden Face showcase the band as qualitative and earnest. More of the same please! - Ali "The Metallian"
