TONGUE - WHAT DO WE KNOW OF HORROR - THE CRAWLING CHAOS
What Do We Know Of Horror is the Germans' second full-length. The five songs are 38 minutes long. The CD opens with The Secret Shared With Everyone, slowly and building up quickly the song gives the impression of simple no frills black metal. There is a slow gloomy section that kicks in at around the fourth minute, a change in pace that some have decided to refer to as post-black metal. Whatever it may be called it feels like a thing that many do when the songs are longer. The lyrics are by no means lengthy so there is no great story being told here. The title track begins almost horror like! J. and T. proving dual vocals and simple screams do not provide much in terms of originality. The dual guitars of the same two aforementioned are almost always straightforward. The middle of this second song feels closer to an intermission and it is followed by a pseudo doomy passage. A Grave Deeper Than Any Dug By Mortal Hands reveals the lyrical theme to be that of not (re)opening wounds. This third song is a relatively speedy black metal song and is angrier in riffs as well. I Spit Venom continues the lyrical theme with lines that claim There is truth to the lies and Venom lies in the eyes of the beholder. The band can not avoid a slower passage. The almost 11-minutes closer is called Fur Niemanden Von Wert meaning Of No Value To Anyone, but the lyrics are in English. In it Tongue reveals a doomy or gothic side. The length, once again, dictates what does happen throughout the song. This predictability is not a strength, even if it is done well. – Anna Tergel
