Reviews TRIGGER THE BLOODSHED - PURGATION - METAL BLADE
The name sounded unpromising and had three words in it. The cover was bland and it was on Metal Blade. Oh Lord Satan, may it please please not be another crossover metalcore waste of life.
The first song, Merciless Ignorance, begins and a waft of rapid and crushing grindcore hits the girl. How many second before the band slows down or produces a breakdown? It is the next song and nothing yet. Could the opener have been an exception and the next track laceration present the listener with a boy-band chant or clean vocals? Nope. Not here either. From start to finish Purgation is a brutal and honest release of tight, co-ordinated and accomplished grindcore which only pauses on the rare occasion like the keyboards on The Defiled (how appropriately titled) or the interlude which is called Hollowed. With violent growls/screramed vocals, razor-sharp guitars and incredible drumming Trigger The Bloodshed is hell of a surprise and a great example for new death metal or grindcore to follow. A special nod goes to Max Blunos on drums who is out to impress. Don’t these guys read the bigger magazines and know they need clean vocals, breakdowns, synthesizers or a female vocalist? Pfft. - Anna Tergel
