Reviews TROLD - TIL GILDE UNDER ULVEN (LIVE AT COPENHELL '25) – MIGHTY
This live album was recorded at Copenhell in 2024. It is apropos given how any real metal fan would die of embarrassment listening to this. The album opens with a pompous voice (speaking Danish), ostensibly taking on the role of a storytelling bard, accompanied by birds tweeting and a flute... may this band, and its art, remain tucked away under the apple tree with the dodo bird perched on its branches while the storyteller suitably impresses/embarrasses the not so virginal maiden with his story, whatever it is. After all, flute aside, these grown men are inspired by the Troldeliv Danish children's books.
Ladies and gentlemen, it's folk rock - sorry 'folk metal' - complete with distorted guitars, an irritating growl and oh soooo catchy tunes. The Danish government thanks the band for giving the flute player an employment opportunity. Not too many openings for that, er, talent, right, Louise Hjorth? Flutes in (supposed) metal are like lady drivers behind the wheel of a car. Don't belong. - Ali "The Metallian"
