Reviews ULCERATE - OF FRACTURE AND FAILURE - NEUROTIC
New Zealand metal for 2000 dollars, Alex...Metal band from Auckland formed in late 2000...What is Ulcerate?...Of Fracture And Failure is the quintet’s debut full-length. Ulcerate is often fast paced, break laden technical death metal with both growling and screaming vocals. Hate Eternal is one clear influence with inspiration from the likes of Immolation and Cryptopsy. Jamie Saint Merat’s drumming keeps pace and keeps up with all the twists and turns of Michael Rothwell and Michael Haggard on guitars. Every song from Praise And Negation to Defaeco, minus the intermission of Failure, moves along quickly and while not distinguishing itself from any of the other moments in these 45 minutes of craziness delivers an almost continuous blast. Ear drums well wasted. - Anna Tergel
ULCERATE - THE COMING OF GENOCIDE - THE FLOOD
Ulcerate’s prediction might come true if The Flood Records could get on of these round discs into the hands of a whole lot of people. The Coming Genocide is a mix of grindcore (blasting, grating guitars, etc.) and brutal death metal that always hints at technicality without letting that aspect get out of hand. The band’s guttural vocals and smashing riff patterns are killer additions. Songs like Subversive Supremacy, Scorn The Dethroned and the title might have been completed courtesy of the band or the independent label, but this album is not left wanting in the production department. This is the way this genre was meant to function so fans of Deicide, Vital Remains or even Haemorrhage should check this band out. - Anna Tergel
