Reviews UNEARTHLY TRANCE - IN THE RED - RISE ABOVE
The American trio has indeed set itself lofty goals. Just imagine how tough it will be for the band to live up to its monicker. Well, does the band's music get anywhere close to living up to that name? That depends on one's taste in music, of course.
This being on Rise Above Records the music is some type of doom one supposes. The music has grit and is tough, the vocals yelling in forlorn desperation as if being sucked into a vortex, the music drones its drawn melodies to the tune of a slow guitar being punished for an extramarital affair and the drums, well they beat the beat of a man not caring at all for he is about to go jump off a cliff. Should you care? Maybe, but the band certainly does not. Imagine Crowbar being spaced out and meeting someone from Southern Lord's roster. Imagine Cathedral losing the disco and its head at the same time and then not caring a fig. This is heavy, cold, nuts and has big chords. - Ali "The Metallian"
