Reviews UNREAL OVERFLOWS - ARCHITECTURE OF INCOMPREHENSION - XTREEM
Unreal Overflows is a young band from Spain with a pedigree dating back a decade to another Spanish band, namely Absorbed. Check out the band and album’s names and the technical and complex nature of the band’s underground metal begins to gain meaning. As intricate as the nomenclature is the words pale before the band’s music, which is a cross between late Death, mid-period Carcass and to a lesser extent Atheist. The vocals dedicate more undivided attention to Carcass’ style though, with the odd deep growl thrown in. The speed is moderate throughout, and one occasionally craves for more speed, although the band’s style and playing ability are the stars of the show as songs like Breeders Of Credibility with its broken riffs, Psycho-Thought with the amazing guitars and the powerful Pain Of An Afflicted Soul demonstrate. In contrast, In Darkness I Dwell 2005 and The Unavoidable Passage Of Time (a nod to the Atheist debut Piece Of Time perhaps) take a more melodic stance with the former being a good showcase for the capable rhythm section in Unreal Overflows. The music on Architecture Of Incomprehension is hardly associated with Spain, but apparently we live in a flat world so never mind the band’s origin. - Ali “The Metallian”
