Reviews URZIRKEL - IN SILBERNEN SPRACHEN - VENDETTA
The debut EP of the grim and depressive black metal trio Urzirkel (singer and guitarist JP, guitarist DM and drummer LLS), In silbernen Sprachen ('In Silvery Language'), could have garnered a higher mark for its underground and devil-may-care stance. It is harsh, unhappy and as slickly produced as an underground garage rehearsal from 1987. Yet the act cannot keep up either the intensity or the purity and fails to uphold any purported ideals. The music, largely as extreme as they come, is furnished with spoken word, next to the growls and screams, acoustic strumming, next to the hyperspeed and very rapid tremolo picking, and interspersed with ritualistic passages, where while the singer howls to the moon Beherit-style, emphasises atmospheric elements in passages. One spoken word segment on Himmlischer Funke sounds like a dub of a Russian grandmother complaining as an outro. The lyrics overall are rather repetitious and minimalist.
For fans of Woods Of Desolation, Leviathan or Grima (and the impurity and dilution that goes with the last name), this 'primordial circle' will make the cut. - Ali "The Metallian"
