USIPIAN - DEAD CORNER OF THE EYE - METAL FORTRESS
Usipian might be an obscure Danish band, but the five-piece easily proves several things nonetheless. First, Usipian is out to prove that the well of brutality has not run dry in Denmark. There is more to Denmark's impressive death metal roster than Iniquity, Illdisposed and Exmortem. Second, the young band is equal to any of the aforementioned acts offering a complete canvas of what a death metal band should be. Fast songs, slow and brutal tracks, deep and sick growling, incredible double bass and serious riffing all come together in the Dead Corner Of The Eye. Add to that, a full sound befitting a death metal band courtesy of Jeppe Hasseriis and Konkhra's Anders Lundemark and a cover art by Dan Seagrave and it is easy to see how the puzzle is completed. Fast and violent parts abound, but as mentioned, songs like Clouded Restrainment and Multiplied Human Disrupture are not afraid to deal a slow and pounding blow against commercialism or the mainstream. The album begins like Pestilence circa Testimony Of The Ancients and soon goes on to creep into Suffocation, Illdisposed and Morbid Angel territory. Usipian is heavy as only death metal can be.
