VISCERAL DAMAGE - GARDEN OF MUTILATION - XTREEM
Do you suppose the Garden Of Mutilation is a casket garden? One never knows, but it is obvious that the band is one hell of a brutal death metal band that is probably inspired by the likes of Mexico's Disgorge and Incantation. The sound is as underground as freedom in America and the musicians blast away like armageddon is due tomorrow. The vocalist is subwoofer low and the songs convey a sense of morbid entanglement. It is all good, except for the production which is muffled and cheap. Too bad, for this band has a lot to offer which is something one does not hear too often about Spanish bands. Given the crude production it is rather amusing to read the biography and its characterization of the album's sound as "crystal clear." Who are they kidding? The fans or the band? After all, the bass guitar on this disc sounds like a frog is croaking. Regardless, this is raw and heavy and, with songs like Cannibal Semen and the title track, in possession of serious contenders. - Ali "The Metallian"
