Reviews VULPECULA - FONS IMMORTALIS - MERCILESS
When a couple of years ago America's Order From Chaos disbanded, the members branched into their own separate bands. Singer/bassist Pete Helmkamp formed (Morbid) Angel Corpse and signed to Osmose Production. Now on Merciless Records is guitarist Chuck Keller, who along with former Nepenthe drummer Chris Overton mixes death and black metal with ambient moods in the name of Vulpecula. The description on its own has limited appeal, in particular for true fans of metal who refuse to accept dilution in any manner. Yet, the end effect is not quite as bad as imaginable. The vocals are kept clean and deep, and the ever-pompous keyboards are kept to a minimum, held at bay for intros and such. There is no clear comparison to be made, but the closest band would be Disembowelment. Merciless Records is releasing this MCD on the 10" vinyl format as well, so look for it in the appropriate. - Ali "The Metallian"
