Reviews WARHAMMER - CURSE OF THE ABSOLUTE ECLIPSE - GSM/NUCLEAR BLAST
There is apparently much clamour within the metal scene for a Celtic Frost reunion. Nary a month goes by without one magazine or the other spreading the news that the Swiss wimp rockers have ran out of dough and will be doing one of those lucrative reformations. So far the rumours have proven false. Not that it matters. The world has Warhammer. They do it as well as the original death metallers and complete with the same sound, guitar tone and simple yet effective drumming. The only difference is that while Tom Warrior had his trademarked 'ohhhs,' Volker's grunt sounds more like 'eiouhhhh!' Warhammer's Martin Ain is Frank Krynojewski who, not coincidentally handles both bass and guitar. One can't wonder why Warhammer not deviate a little more or ask why they won't try injecting a little more viciousness or excitement into the fray. It would have served the album well. It does not matter by now, for there is no doubt whatsoever what makes Warhammer tick, but the cover sports a facsimile of the Morbid Tales cover. Warhammer gives the many Hellhammer/early Celtic Frost tribute bands out there a stiff run for their money. Usurper eat your heart out!
