WARRIOR - THE WARS OF GODS AND MEN - REALITY
Who knew singer Marc Storace of Krokus and vocalist Mark Slaughter of Slaughter sound so alike? One listen to The Wars Of Gods And Men, featuring Storace as guest of the American metal band Warrior, will have any fan double checking the disc's credits to confirm the identity of the singer. It doesn't help that a song like Do It Now could have appeared on an Slaughter album!
The vocals are performed well and in a manner that indicates Storace did not behave with the usual detachment of a guest musician. His performance here is some of his best. The songs and the music are top-notch too. The title track is infectious. Do It Now is exhilarating and Three Am Eternal with its Iron Maiden melody make a statement about the potency of this album. The latter song has a slightly different feeling than the other tracks. The lyrics are on the money too. Aside from the obviously noteworthy songs like the title track, a song like Naked Aggression has both guts and relevance to this day and age.
Less impressive is the sound of the album. The band has either not had a big budget to play with or the studio was not kind to the guitars. It is a shame. The material deserves better. All the same, The Wars Of Gods And Men is a good album from this veteran California band and suitable for both hard rock and heavy metal enthusiasts. - Ali "The Metallian"
