WASTELAND - TORTURE TACTICS - MERCY KILLINGS - WRECKING CREW
Wasteland is a raw and relatively primitive thrash metal band. The band's sound is six parts Kreator, two parts Poison (Germany of course!) and two parts Carcass, with the latter in the vocal department. The fast German thrashing rage is accompanied by a singer who hisses at the listener and lyrics that are fun, juvenile and of the sick variety. Lead guitars are nowhere to be found in the wastelands though. Minor lead work only and finally creeps unto the album in the CD's dying moments, that is at the tail-end of Brainboilwash. Torture Garden, Paradise Of Pain features music reminiscent of the German glory days and Protector. The Sweet Suffering is ironically slowed down to emphasize a big riff and massive growl-o-rama. Then there is Break-Choke-Dance which even has a Motorhead feeling to it. Those looking for pure metal sound and absolutely no frills or extras have to seek out Wrecking Crew's inaugural release. - Ali "The Metallian"
