Metallian Demos

AGE OF EMERGENCE - THE ALL SEEING EYE: PART 2
As The All Seeing Eye: Part 2 begins, the bands that come to mind are Mastodon - not just because the riff is big - and Soundgarden, partly because one member is wearing the shirt. Nothing particularly progressive, then, given that the riffs are simple and designed more for effectiveness than complexity. The band, though, insists that "Age of Emergence is carving a unique path in the progressive and alternative metal scene." In other words, for once the actual music is better than the disparaging description.
The Australia-based trio has a good sound, lots of guitar and impactful riffs. The second song, Mountains Greed, has a mediocre start where the alternative tag may fit, but it's still more hard rock, stripped down and rhythmic, yet hard rock nonetheless. Again, the band doesn't forget to solo. The bass sound is palpable. Twilight Zone is more doom to start before picking up the pace. There are commercial sounding backing vocals on the song, although the riffs get heavy and the drum sounds respectable. Three songs worth a listen and more. - Anna Tergel
